Spannagel Cave natural monument

The Spannagel Cave at the Hintertux Glacier is Europe’s highest altitude public-accessible cave and a very worthwhile day trip destination for families with children. With a measured length of around 12,5 km it is the largest rock cave system in the Central Alps, 500 metres can be experienced by visitors on a guided tour. The family friendly Spannagel Cave Natural Monument is an ideal place to visit even in bad weather!

Tour 1: SHOW CAVE TOUR

WITHOUT ADVANCE BOOKING

  • June 1st to July 9th, 2021 & September 10th to October 14th 2021:
    daily hourly guided tours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    In addition to our genaral safety measures, please note:
    "vaccinated, tested or recovered" & advance booking for groups with more than 10 people
  • July 10th to September 9th 2021:
    daily hourly guided tours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • October 15th 2021 to May 31st 2022:
    guided tours by appointment only under +43/5287/87251

Meeting point: Spannagelhaus (ascent to Tuxer Fernerhaus at 2,660m, 10 minutes by foot to the Spannagel Cave at the Spannagelhaus)
Duration: approx. 60 Minuten
Admission fee: Adults € 15,00 | Children (6 to 15 years- minimum size 1.20 m) € 8,00 | Discounts with Tux-Finkenberg Ticket and Zillertal Activcard
Suitable equipment: sturdy shoes, warm clothing
Requirements: Good physical condition, surefootedness and no claustrophobia

Tour 2 & 3: Cave Trekking with climbing

On request, extensive tours of several hours are available, where cave trekkers are taken even deeper into the complex cave system under the Hintertux Glacier. Experience cave courses, which are otherwise only accessible to cave guides

  • Tour 2: Trekking tour from 16 years
    Level of difficulty: comparable to a category B via ferrata
    Duration: approx. 3 hours
    Admission fee: € 75, - per person
  • Tour 3: Trekking tour from 18 years
    Level of difficulty: comparable to a category E via ferrata
    Duration: approx. 5 hours
    Admission fee: € 120, - per person

    Requirements: Good physical condition, surefootedness and no claustrophobia


Tour 4: Trekking Tour without climbing

  • Level of difficulty: easy trekking tour for adults and teens from 14 years of age (surefootedness required)
  • Duration: approx. 2 hours (excl. dressing before the tour)
  • Admission fee: € 50,- per person
  • in the cave map: red area (up to the ÖTK shaft)
  • Requirements: Good physical condition, surefootedness and no claustrophobia
