Guided Glacier Tour

guided glacier tourGlaciers have, and always will be, an amazing natural attraction. Whatever the season, glaciers never cease to amaze with their extraordinarily powerful appearance. Ice sheets and crevices, craggy rock faces and undulating fields of snow are formidable proof of the power of nature.

The layers of ice deposited over thousands of years can be seen particularly well in the ice breaks on the glacier’s surface in summer – a fascinating sight of refracted light in infinite shades of aquamarine.

Exploring the Hintertuxer Glacier with a trained guide is a particularly exciting experience. Not only will you discover interesting information about a glacier’s physical characteristics, but also learn about glaciology, glacial formation and growth, the effects and expansion of ice on earth. Guided glacier walks take place three times a week from July to September (Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11.00a.m. and 1.00p.m. respectively). The meeting point is located at the terrace of the Tuxer Fernerhaus. The price for adults is € 6.00 and € 4.00 for children.

Even in summer it can be bitterly cold at this altitude, which is why we recommend good walking shoes, sun glasses, a warm jacket, and hat or head band for this guided tour of discovery over eternal ice. (Duration approx. 1 hour).
